Army Public Health Nursing enables Total Force readiness through population-focused health sevices, mitigating disease and injury, assuring Force Health Protection, communicating policy, and responding to emerging health threats.

Tobacco Cessation Program:

 

The Army Public Health Nursing (APHN) clinic's “Ready To Quit” class is offered on the 1st Tuesday of each month from 9-11 a.m. in Room 111 at the main hospital.

 

This motivational class provides:                

                   

• Health, diet and medication education

• Education is conducted by a Registered Nurse, a Registered Dietician, and a Pharmacist

• Prescription medications available include Chantix, Zyban and nicotine patches.

Pregnant Postpartum Physical Fitness (P3T):

 

This is an extra program intended to supplement the post mandatory physical fitness training program for pregnant Soldiers. Pregnant Soldiers are provided education for self-care during and after pregnancy, as well as taught skills to parent and care for their newborns. In accordance with AR 40-501, paragraph 7-9, (7), upon confirmation of pregnancy, commanders will enroll their pregnant Soldiers into a Pregnant Postpartum Physical Fitness Program.

 

The P3T class is offered every Tuesday from 7:30-8:30 a.m. For more information please call 573-596-0518.

 

Latent Tuberculosis (TB) Clinic:

 

The TB clinic is responsible for evaluating all positive TB skin tests for military, beneficiaries and DOD civilians 18 ears and older. In addition, this clinic manages the care of clients with latent TB infection (noninfectious TB) and TB disease.

Child Youth Services (CYS):

    

GLWACH APHN nurses serve as health consultants to CYS and provide Special Needs Accommodation Program (SNAP) reviews and coordination with Exceptional Family Member Program (EFMP) services.

Health Promotion:

 

Disease prevention is our goal.

The GLWACH APHN clinic educates military beneficiaries and DOD employees about lifestyle behaviors that encourage health promotion. This goal is met through providing disease prevention and intervention classes on topics such as hypertension, heart disease, cancer, and infectious diseases. In addition, APHN service is available to support unit-sponsored health fairs with health education materials.

Travel Clinic:

 

The GLWACH APHN Travel Clinic's goal is to provide quality preventive travel medicine information to active duty Service Members and Tricare beneficiaries on leave or TDY. With this information, our clients have the knowledge and ability to be in charge of their own wellness outside of the United States. We provide a complete consultation with pre-travel evaluation, vaccination review, and prescriptions for administration while in a travelling status.

 

The GLWACH APHN Travel Clinic is open Monday through Friday by appointment only. Please schedule appointments 3 weeks prior to travelling by calling 573-596-0518. 

 

Note: The GLWACH APHN Travel Clinic does not see any patients under 18 years old. These patients must be seen in the Pediatrics Clinic, accompanied by their sponsor/parent/legal guardian. 

 

Surveillance Programs:

 

Our surveillance program covers all reportable diseases in accordance with military regulations, and local, state, and federal laws. Our program involves HIV notification and counseling, TB monitoring, including direct observation therapy when required, as well as the monitoring and reporting of various other diseases such as Rabies, Salmonella, Hanta Virus, Influenza, and Sexually Transmitted Infections.
